How COVID-19 Is Affecting Wedding Plans

Updated: Sep 9, 2020

The big 2020, such a wholesome, even number, what could possibly go wrong? The year in which many of us had plenty of plans, but only one problem: the cruel mistress that is Covid-19 had different ideas for us.

It’s true that the coronavirus crisis has left many people biting their nails; wondering how long their plans will be on hold until. This includes many loved up couples who were looking forward to celebrating their wedding this year. Planning your big day can be an almighty task—no matter which day of the year you choose to tie the knot—but this year is presenting new, unique challenges. You may be wondering how the current state will affect your special day and if you need to think about postponing your plans. However, all is not lost! Let’s take a look at the situation at hand and find out what the 2020 wedding prospectus is looking like.

Many questions have been raised as to how quickly current circumstances will change, however, although the global situation is improving, it would be overly ambitious to suggest that your 2020 wedding won’t look a little different to how you planned it. Whether your dream wedding is at home or abroad, your vision will depend on a few factors: date, guest count, location, and extent of travel involved. This means that if you were set on a Summer or Fall wedding, it may have to be smaller and adapted around precautions against COVID-19. Experts in the wedding planning and travel industry advise that the best thing to do at the moment is to be prepared, follow the news closely and maintain good communication with your vendors and guests.

For Summer 2020 weddings, it’s safe to say that it may be wiser to move your date. That way, you can aim for the wedding you have always dreamed about—without the hassle of downsizing and guests potentially cancelling. On the plus side, many venues will offer you a Plan B back-up date for next year, which is very lucky and should be considered (sooner rather than later). For those of you who have planned a 2020 Winter wedding, you may not have to postpone depending on the factors previously mentioned and how the coming months pan out.

If you have decided to postpone your wedding date, don’t be disheartened! Your day will come, maybe a little later than you originally intended, but it’ll be all the more magical when your dreams become reality and you get to say “I do” in front of all of your loved ones. As a devoted wedding photography/videography company, we understand first hand how important your special day is and picturing moments that you will treasure. You are not alone, many couples are facing the same dilemma, but we are here to let you know that no matter what day you choose we’ll be there to capture every moment and make sure you have memories that last a lifetime.
